Our mission In recent years, at an international level, there has been a growing interest in the ecognition and promotion of farmers'rights. Recently, Peasants'Rights have been to center of a long and articulated negotiation process which ended on December 17, 2018 with the adoption by majority1by the General Assembly, the UN Declaration on the Rights of the Peasants and of other people working in rural areas (hereafter: Declaration on the rights of farmers) 2. Although it has so far received rather limited attention in doctrine, the Declaration arouses interest in various respects. As Priscilla Claeys observed, eleven years after the UN Declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples, it adds an important step to the consolidation process and decolonization africa and ilands .
SDespite the abstention or opposition of some European countries (including Italy), the United Nations General Assembly yesterday approved the Declaration on the Rights of farmers and other people working in rural areas, the result of a long battle carried out primarily by La Via Campesina and many other civil society realities. An epochal moment and a very important turning point for the protection of the rights of rural populations, to improve their living and working conditions, strengthen their food sovereignty, the fight against climate change and the conservation of biodiversity.
