Commander-in-Chief versus Commander-in-Chief

MALEMA

Is there rivalry between the two Js – Jacob and Julius? Who is the real Commanderin-
Chief ? If indeed there is rivalry between the two, can it be regarded as a healthy or unhealthy rivalry?

As South Africans we might disagree on many issues and that is normal. We have the right
to think independently, to analyse and interpret developments or trends according to our own
perceptions. But we can all agree that ‘the rise of Julius Malema’ has brought about a very
interesting change to the political landscape. There are sufficient reasons to believe that, yes
there is a rivalry between the two and that this rivalry is intense! Julius Malema set himself
apart from the other party leaders by adopting the title “Commander-in- Chief.”The country’s
president is constitutionally the Commander-in- Chief. So by using this title Julius was and still is
saying to the president there cannot be two Commanders-in-Chief in one country. He is actually declaring himself the president in waiting. What is interesting is that his followers took a liking to this title and they freely refer to him as the Commander-in-Chief. Julius seldom makes mention of this title but his followers regard him as the Commander-in-Chief.

That is power and JZ surely perceives it. Suddenly, JZ has to remind all and sundry, that he is the
Commander-in-Chief. As they say ‘ one of the signs that you are losing power as captain of
the ship is when you find yourself having toconstantly remind your subordinates who the
boss is.’ The emergence of the junior J as a political heavyweight in his own right dealt a heavy blow to the senior J. We need to remember that Julius sharpened his political teeth in the ANC where he was trained, groomed and eventually elected and appointed leader of the ANCYL. He was
privy to the internal workings and secrets of
the organisation. He knows exactly how the
organisation’s propaganda machinery functions. In addition to that the trend with regard to
ANCYL leaders is that they eventually become
the organisation’s president and potentially
the country’s president. All these is bound to
give give JZ sleepless nights. When JZ looks
at J something tells him that ‘this young man
really poses a serious challenge to my position.’
Julius was instrumental in the demise of the
powerful, learned and intelligent Thabo
Mbeki. The nation is aware of that, JZ himself
is aware of that and for that reason he cannot
afford to view him as an ordinary opposition
leader. The young man is DANGEROUS.
Indeed a rivalry exists between the two and
this rivalry is justified.to create envy and rivalry between himself
and Jacob. Envy in a sense that Julius has the
liberty to woo JZ’s supporters by dangling
the meaningless carrot to the electorate i.e
nationalisation of banks, mines, farms etc while
JZ cannot afford that luxury. Julius differentiates
himself by declaring to this market “you have
the Political power, but you still lack Economic
freedom, vote for Me and your economic
conditions shall be transformed.” Julius’ promises
are not feasible but they do help him garner
more votes and that is what matters most at
this stage. The majority of the electorate does
not posses the skill to question just how these
promises are going to be implemented. Those
reckless promises do endear him to the electorate
and that sure irks Jacob. There is definitely a
rivalry between the two. Julius is currently more
of a rising star while Jacob’s star is waning!

information relating to the D account.
A delegation of the Provincial Government led by the
MEC for Culture ,Arts & Traditional Affairs(CATA)
with a strong team of Heads of Department from
CATA and Finance met with her on Tuesday 26
July 2016 and shared information she required on
the D account. The Provincial Government remains
committed to ensuring continued cooperation with
the Public Protector until this matter is concluded. It
is government view that in instances where it is found
that people misuse government money that they
would be brought to book. It is government’s view
that we would work jointly to ensure that information
is provided on matters of Bapong. Engagements
between The Public Protector and the community was
to communicate progress to date and how government
would have worked with the Public Protector to ensure
the matter is concluded. We maintain our commitment
to the Public Protector that Government will not institute
a parallel inquiry into the D-account but will cooperate
with her office’s investigation into the account. It is
unfair to castigate the fifth administration’s efforts to
resolve the D account matter only two years into the
5th administration’s term of office when the matter
has dragged-on for the last 21 years.
The 40% held a community meeting on the
20th of August 2016. According to a source close to
the family, the meeting was organised by Lawrence
Mashigo who is a leader of the community. The
purpose of the meeting was to remove Motheo as the
Chief and to find an alternative Chief. Periodically,
if Motheo is removed his younger brother will
succeed the chieftainship, if not, the uncle known
as Rangwane Poe, if not his son will succeed the
chieftainship. If this does not work, Dinatsotlhe
Charle Mamogale, the younger brother to Poe
Mamogale. Dinatsotlhe has two sons and they also
are on the line to become the chief of Bakwena.
During the meeting a resolution was made that
Motheo must leave. It was revealed after evidence
was produced by Mashigo and other members of the
community. The information points out that Motheo
misused the funds of Bakwena by signing the requisition
