The question came after arguments were made by leaders in the African National Congress (ANC) whether the former Madibeng Local Municipality, Municipal Manager, Mr. Monde Juta should be redeployed to his previous position.

 

It is alleged that Monde Juta was amongst the officials that were influential in decision making and calling the shots at the municipality. The allegation further indicates that Juta only gave major tenders to certain big companies.

Mr. Lawrence Maluleke, accused of always portraying himself as someone who has more cash than any other councillor in Madibeng as well as having influence in awarding security tenders, has been kicked out of office.

 

It is alleged that Mr. Maluleke used his position at the municipality as Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Safety and Security to influence the appointment of his children as employees of the municipality.

Gold Renault Duster and Blue Isuzu Bakkie collided at Wagpos

On the 18th of August 2015 around 08:00, two vehicles (Gold Renault Duster and Blue Isuzu Bakkie were involved in a collision where three occupants including the driver of the Renault Duster sustained injuries and were all taken to Brits District Hospital.

 

According to the information, the two vehicles were travelling in opposite directions on Wagpos Road when allegedly one of the vehicles lost control and thus caused the accident. Fortunately no one died during the accident and no one on the bakkie sustained injuries.

W/O Mpeile Talane, Corporate Communication of South African Police Service in Brits added that the police attended the scene and a case of reckless and negligent driving was opened to investigate what could have been the cause of the accident. The matter is still under investigation.

Man arrested for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition

A 28 year old Zimbabwean man has appeared in Brits Magistrate’s Court on 14 August 2015 for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. The suspect was arrested on Thursday 13 August 2015 after he was found in possession of a pistol and 50 live ammunitions.

The success resulted from the positive tip off that the police received from the community alleging that the suspect was wandering around Broederstroom area in Hartbeespoortdam and he was suspiciously in possession of a firearm. The police pursued the information and that led to the recovery of a firearm and ammunition which were then confiscated and the suspect was detained.

 

The suspect appeared again on 21 August 2015 after the case was posteponed for bail application on 14 August 2015 and he (suspect) was remanded in custody.

The Select Committee on Social Services has nothing but praises for the Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima for successfully implementing the Marikana housing project which is part of government’s initiative to revitalise old mining towns and to bringing dignity to the people living in mining areas.

 

Members of the Committee unanimously conceded that the almost completed 292 Breaking New Ground Housing (BNG) and 252 Community residential units (CRU) are of first-class quality.

Department helps municipality extinguishes fire by buying fire engines

In order to deal with fire disasters especially those that happen along the N12 road in the Province, the Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima, has spent over for R2.8 million in fire fight engines for Maquassi local municipality.

 

The three fire engines, i.e. two medium pumpers and a skiet unit can all take between 500 and 3500 litres of water each and they also have rescue equipments, i.e. ‘’jaws of life’’ used during road accidents.

The DA plans to raise the lack of sanitation and lack of sewage infrastructure in the Council

The Democratic Alliance in North West is shocked by the adverse living conditions of the people in Reboile and Groot-Marico. During an on site visit, the lack of sanitation and proper infrastructure were experienced firsthand.

 

This area is supposed to be one of the province’s most renowned cultural attractions, but these towns have no water purification system or sewerage plant. Over R23 million has already been spent to cater for additional processing, but raw sewage still seeps through the flimsy ground walls erected by the municipality. During the rain season this situation deteriorates even more.

Department of Justice and Constitutional Development took free Justice to the People

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development in partnership with the South African Women Lawyers Association and Legal AID South Africa hosted the Access to Justice Week which covered the period from 17-21 August 2015 in all nine provinces.

 

During that week, identified courts in North West Province together with private attorneys offered free legal advice to needy members of the community. The North West Regional Office went to all its six cluster courts to reach community members that are destitute, marginalised and vulnerable.
